Paste the thread.
Not the people.
Want AI to help with a messy email thread? Email Thread Scrubber swaps every name, email address, phone number, address and account number for a placeholder, right in your browser. The AI gets the problem. It never gets the people.
- One HTML file
- Zero network requests
- No account, no install
- English + French
- Apache-2.0
Your inbox is going into AI chatbots. Whole.
of employees who use generative AI paste data into it.
of those pastes include personal or payment-card details.
of pastes come from personal accounts that no one at work can see.

Paste. Scrub. Check. Copy.
Tell it who's who and it labels them: you become <ME>, your client becomes <CLIENT>. Anything it isn't sure about turns yellow for you to decide. If it misses something, highlight it and it's gone.
A real recording of v0.5.0 with a fictional thread. Captions added for this video.
Built for email, not for everything.
It reads email like you do
Headers, signatures, "On Tuesday, Jordan wrote:", quoted replies, confidentiality footers and "Sent from my iPhone". It knows where names hide in a thread.
The AI still knows who's who
The same person gets the same placeholder every time, so the AI can follow the story. When the reply comes back, swap the real names in.
You get the last word
It doesn't guess quietly. Anything uncertain is highlighted, and nothing copies until you've accepted what's left.
Nothing to trust but the file
No account, no extension, no server. The file blocks itself from the network, and every line of the source is public.
- HR and labour relations
- Lawyers and paralegals
- Property managers
- Accountants and bookkeepers
- Customer support
- Anyone asking AI to help with a reply
Straight about the limits
It replaces emails, phone numbers, dates, addresses, postal codes, account and ID numbers, SIN/SSN, card numbers, IBANs, VINs, IP and MAC addresses, GPS coordinates and social handles. Possible names, ID-like values, file names and ages are highlighted for you to decide.
It helps you remove details. It does not certify anonymity.
Context can still identify someone. Read the whole result before you paste it anywhere, and make sure you're allowed to share it.
Need it to do more?
The free scrubber uses general rules. If your work has its own case numbers, client lists or document types, tell us what you need. Early sign-ups shape what gets built and hear first when it's ready.
A remover built for your organization
- Your employee, file and case-number formats built in
- Your client and staff lists removed automatically
- One file your whole team downloads, still fully offline
The bigger tool
- PDFs, Word documents and scanned pages, not just pasted text
- A private key that puts the real names back into the AI's reply
- Saved setups for each case or client

Terms of use
Email Thread Scrubber is a local text-processing aid supplied by The Chatbot Genius. It is not a certified anonymisation service, a compliance assessment, or approval to disclose personal information or personal health information.
- Your review and disclosure decisions. You are responsible for lawful access to the source text, checking every part of the output, obtaining any required consent or organisational authorisation, and choosing an approved destination. Do not rely on a clean leak check or an Accept click as proof that all identifying information has been removed.
- Use at your own risk. Subject to applicable law, the software is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of completeness, accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or successful removal of PII or PHI.
- Limitation of liability. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the provider and contributors are not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of the tool or your disclosure of its output, including inadvertent release of personal or health information, data loss, or consequential damages. Nothing here excludes liability or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Privacy statement
The downloaded scrubber: pasted text and scrubbed results are processed in the browser’s memory. The tool does not upload them, send telemetry, use third-party scripts, or write threads or results to browser storage. Clear current thread clears the current input and result; this is not a guarantee of forensic erasure from your device.
Remembered preferences: Me, Saved people, Always remove terms and highlighted exclusions are stored in browser-local storage, without encryption. Replace and Keep choices and this-thread people are not stored. Saved people may include names and the date last used. Forget saved people and exclusions removes the tool’s saved preferences. Other people with access to your browser profile may be able to read them.
Clipboard and your next destination: copying places the scrubbed text on your system clipboard. Clipboard history, sync, extensions and the service you paste into may retain it. The scrubber does not control those systems.
This landing page: it has no analytics, cookies, external fonts or third-party scripts. If you use the early-access form, what you enter (email, optional name, interests, line of work, team size, your description and price range) is sent to Google Forms and kept in a private Google Sheet so we can contact you about the scrubber. It is not sold or shared, and you can ask for it to be deleted at any time. The hosting service may also process ordinary request data such as IP addresses and access logs. Following the GitHub or Chatbot Genius links opens separate website policies.
Support: do not send real threads, PII or PHI in a public issue. Use fictional examples when reporting a problem. For privacy questions or to have your early-access details deleted, email jay@barkerhrs.com.
