Email Thread Scrubber

Paste a thread, name the people who matter, and copy out a version with the personal details taken out. Nothing leaves this page. It has no network access. Only Me, Saved people and exclusions are saved in this browser; pasted threads and results are never saved.

JavaScript is off, so this page cannot run.

1. Paste the thread

2. Who's who (optional)

Separate name forms with commas. Me always becomes <ME>. Other people are numbered by first appearance unless you give them a label.

This thread

These people apply to this thread only. Save moves a person into your remembered list.

Saved people (0)

3. Always remove (optional)

Remembered highlighted exclusions

Paste the complete thread, or open a plain text file. Try a sample uses fictional data without changing your saved preferences.
Set Me once. Add people for this thread with an optional label, or Save them for every scrub. Saved people can be searched, edited or removed. Unlabelled people are numbered by first appearance.
Enter one identifying term per line. Highlighted exclusions are remembered separately; Forget removes them from future runs.
Blue text has been replaced. Yellow text might be private: replace it or keep it. Copy takes the clean text only.
This note asks the AI to preserve placeholders in its reply. It does not guarantee that the AI will follow the instruction.
Next jumps to the next yellow item. Replace hides it in this thread only; Always remove saves it for every thread.
Accept means you've looked at what's left. The button turns into Copy, and it resets if the text changes.

Help: what to check

What is caught automatically: names in headers, greetings and sign-offs; emails; phones; dates; addresses; labelled IDs, SINs and card numbers with a valid checksum, SSNs; links; confidentiality notices; valid IBANs; Canadian bank account numbers; IP and MAC addresses; valid VINs; GPS coordinates; social handles.

What is flagged for you: yellow highlights mark possible names, ID-like numbers, file names, ages, profile links and ZIP codes. Organisation-specific numbers, such as employee or service numbers, are flagged rather than replaced because the tool cannot know every format.

What is not reliably caught: single names in prose, nicknames, and context that identifies someone without naming them. Yellow highlights cover some of this. You are responsible for the final check. Scroll the result before you copy.

People versus Always remove: Me becomes <ME>. This thread and Saved people use an optional label or <PERSON-n>. Me is matched first; this-thread names take precedence over the same saved name forms. Always remove handles project names, organisations or any other identifying terms, one per line.

Reviewing the result: Replace hides every matching occurrence in this thread only. Always remove saves the item for future threads. Keep leaves the text unchanged and removes its yellow highlight for this thread. The review counter shows what remains; Next focuses the next Replace button and wraps at the end. Accept keeps the remaining yellow items and acknowledges any red leaks, then turns into Copy; a second click copies. Acceptance resets when the copy text changes or new flags or leaks appear, but Keep alone does not reset it. Red means a detail you asked to remove still appears. Review items lists the yellow items and confirmed leaks. Passing a leak check is not proof of anonymity.

Preferences: only Me, Saved people, Always remove terms and highlighted exclusions are stored in this browser’s local storage and are not encrypted. Always remove saves an item; Replace and Keep apply to the current thread only and are not stored. This-thread people, threads, results and replacement maps are not saved. Saved people show only the date last used, updated when a name is actually replaced. Clear current thread removes its people, temporary exclusions and Keep list but keeps Me and Saved people. Save moves a row into Saved people. Search ignores case and accents. Forget is disabled during the sample; leave the sample first. Use Forget saved people and exclusions to erase preferences. If this computer is shared, use Forget when you're done.

Check it yourself: open the browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, run a scrub, and confirm nothing is sent.

Using the AI’s reply: placeholders come back in the reply; swap the real names in before sending.
